NEWS FROM NASFAA

Walking. Running. Caffeine. Getting away from the desk. Fresh air. These are just a few of the ways NASFAA community members try to combat work stress. In our online Slack community, it's not uncommon to see memes about feeling overwhelmed or exhausted. The challenges our community has faced this past year have been significant.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Join David Futrell, Director of Institutional Compliance, today at 2 p.m. ET for a discussion of the longstanding rules and general observations related to the treatment of other financial assistance (OFA) (formerly EFA). We’ll focus on the changes made by the FAFSA Simplification Act, which removes from OFA 1) emergency financial assistance for unexpected expenses within the student’s cost of attendance (COA); and 2) foster care payments under Title IV, Part E of the Social Security Act. We’ll also discuss what happens when Title IV aid and non-Title IV aid exceed the COA. Register now to reserve your seat.

NASFAA's Financial Aid Night Toolkit has recently been updated with information for the 2025-26 academic year and is now available to assist NASFAA members in conducting or providing support for financial aid night presentations. In the toolkit, you'll find a slideshow designed to give students and families a basic understanding of financial aid concepts, sources of financial aid, and the application process for federal student aid. The toolkit also contains a guide to planning and conducting a financial aid night, as well as updated versions of supplemental student and parent handouts to help you give a compelling and informative presentation. The content may be presented in person or virtually.

Get the recognition you deserve by earning the FAAC® designation. If your application has already been approved purchase the Certified Financial Aid Administrator® Knowledge Exam. Schedule your session online until the 21st of this month, or any of the upcoming testing windows. If you haven’t applied yet, take advantage of the waived application fee and complete your application online right away. Learn more about the testing process and make sure you meet all of the technical requirements. Utilize candidate resources to review for the exam.
