NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education (ED) published the 2025-26 verification data elements and documentation requirements in the September 4, 2024 Federal Register (FR) and Dear Colleague Letter GEN-24-10, which also provided suggested text for verification. While the verification requirements are largely the same as the 2024-25 award year, there are changes related to documentation requirements for victims of tax-related identity theft and verification of family size.

The Department of Education (ED) on Tuesday via an updated electronic announcement said they would be reprocessing certain 2024-25 FAFSAs impacted by a recurring issue in which some Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) have blank SAI fields and do not contain reject codes. ED said it has identified a “small number” of ISIRs where this issue persisted in new ISIRs that were initially processed after mid-June. ED said the affected records will be reprocessed “this week” and will be identified with the “04” reprocessing code.
