August State & Regional Association Updates

By Maria Carrasco, NASFAA Staff Reporter

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations.

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues from Rhode Island, New York, Texas, and the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA).

RIASFAA Recognition Award: Melissa Donahue

Kelly Morrissey, past president of RIASFAA (Rhode Island), shares that the association held a year end celebration on June 26, 2024, and awarded its first annual RIASFAA awards. Winners include:

  • Melissa Donahue, of the Rhode Island School of Design, who was awarded the RIASFAA Recognition Award as the outgoing past president for her numerous contributions to the association.

  • Bonnie Saccucci who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She retired from the University of Rhode Island last year after many years of dedicated service to the profession, Kelly writes.

Additionally, Kelly shares that the presidential gavel was passed from her to Matt Davis of Brown University. The new president-elect of RIASFAA is Jennifer Burke of Rhode Island College.

NYASFAA Executive Council 2024

Patricia Donahue, president of NYSFAAA (New York), shares that the association’s executive council met in Buffalo, New York, to discuss the 2024-25 budget plan and tour the conference site for the upcoming fall 2024 conference. The conference will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on October 29-31.

Denise Welch, president of TASFAA (Texas), shares that registration for TASFAA’s annual conference is now open. The association is excited to have Andrea Nguyen as its keynote speaker, with a video available of her on TASFAA’s conference website. “Our agenda is going to be action packed with tons of information,” Denise writes.

Tayler Kreutter, president of EASFAA, shares that the association held its annual Regional Council Retreat at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, which will also be the site of EASFAA’s 2025 conference. The conference theme will be "High Stakes, High Rewards: Thriving with the Hand You're Dealt."

This year’s Regional Council Retreat brought together 33 dedicated aid professionals and was incredibly successful, Tayler writes. The group embarked on creating EASFAA's next strategic plan, which will debut at EASFAA’s 2025 conference and set the stage for the future of the association. “We are looking forward to the exciting year ahead and the valuable progress we will make together,” Tayler writes.

Check back next month to see what your colleagues are doing across the country, and check out your colleagues’ updates from previous months!
