July State & Regional Association Updates

By Maria Carrasco, NASFAA Staff Reporter

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations.

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues from Texas, South Carolina, and the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SWASFAA).

Denise Welch, president of TASFAA (Texas), shares that the association has its board meeting scheduled for July. Additionally, TASFAA’s Nominations & Elections Committee has nominations listed on the association website for the community to review.

“Our committee did a fabulous job in getting qualified candidates for our Board Representative at Large positions and President Elect,” Denise writes.

Denise also shares that the countdown continues for TASFAA’s annual conference and New Aid Office Basics workshop in October. The theme for this year’s conference is “Coming Together.”

Zachary Christian, president of SCASFAA (South Carolina), shares that the association held its annual Leadership Symposium in May. This one-day training provided attendees the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, regardless of their role within their offices, Zachary writes.

The Leadership Symposium was held on the campus of Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and was made possible by SCASFAA's Vice President Regina Hailey Smith and Clinton College Financial Aid Director Kristen Douglas, Zachary shares.

Audra Main, president of SWASFAA, shares that the association will be continuing its monthly get together by having a virtual happy hour on July 25.

“To continue the conference theme, feel free to put your favorite beverage as your background during the virtual meeting,” Audra writes. “We all need to unwind and not think about FAFSA simplification.”
