NEWS FROM NASFAA

Virginia Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera, on Wednesday, sent a letter to the Department of Education (ED) calling on the department to prioritize overhauling and implementing the FAFSA for the 2025-26 cycle.

This month Federal Student Aid (FSA) launched their 2024-25 “Learning Tracks and Training Courses” incorporating updates made through the implementation of FAFSA Simplification and utilizing new engaging formats. Courses include comprehensive training on Title IV aid administration for new staff as well as shorter training focused on the FAFSA, COA and need analysis, awarding Pell Grants, professional judgment and dependency status determinations, and citizenship eligibility. FSA, in addition to these trainings, also recently launched a FISAP training course to provide guidance on the 2025-26 FISAP.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

It depends. According to guidance NASFAA received from the U.S. Department of Education (ED), all of the income earned from work can be attributed to a single contributor when completing verification or resolving conflicting information for contributors (student, student spouse, parent, parent spouse) who filed a tax return as married filing jointly and are still married when the FAFSA is filed. Providing students and families with clear and accurate financial aid offers has never been more important — especially in a year when there’s less time for students to make a decision on college enrollment. The College Cost Transparency Initiative (CCT) is a national movement of institutions committing to use a common set of principles and standards that ensure transparency, clarity, and understanding around communicating student financial aid offers. Interested in participating? Make sure to submit your commitment before August 31 for a chance to win one of three complimentary registrations to NASFAA 2025 in Anaheim!
