NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA is pleased to share our draft response to the Department of Education’s (ED) request for comments on its proposed regulatory changes resulting from negotiations held earlier this year covering topics related to program Integrity and institutional quality. In the comments, NASFAA commends ED’s efforts to simplify R2T4 but notes the need for a complete overhaul of those regulations. NASFAA also shares concerns about several proposed changes to the distance education regulations we believe could have unintended consequences. NASFAA hopes our members will use these comments to inform their own comments, which are due to ED on August 23, 2024.

"It is with a great sense of gratitude and pride that I reflect on my time spent as the Dallas Martin Endowment Policy Intern in my final week with NASFAA," writes Zoe Turner. "I came into this internship with only my personal experience with financial aid in higher education, and leave feeling enlightened and inspired by the tireless work this community devotes to the success of their students." Read on to hear about Zoe's favorite experiences as NASFAA’s 2024 Dallas Martin Endowment policy intern and where life is taking her next.

The 2024-25 FAFSA rollout has created significant challenges for financial aid offices, making August all the more difficult for teams trying to sort through manual corrections. As a reminder, the Department of Education (ED) is currently offering assistance to schools through third-party servicers to help institutions work through manual corrections in the FAFSA Partner Portal (FPP). Requests can be made through an email to the department and assistance will be assessed based on need and service capacity.
