NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education (ED) in an update to its electronic announcement from June noted that they are revising their instructions to include necessary additional steps to resolve instances of conflicting information when an applicant or contributor had federal tax information (FTI) data reported on their Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) and also manually indicated that they did not file a tax return in fiscal year 2022. The EA previously indicated that schools could resolve the conflict without requesting documentation from the applicant or contributor. The updated EA requires that schools collect appropriate documentation before submitting a correction. NASFAA has reached out to the department seeking more information and detail regarding this update, including the effective date. Stay tuned to Today’s News for more information.

On Wednesday the Department of Education (ED) released proposed rules on three of the six topics negotiated in its Program Integrity and Institutional Quality rulemaking session held over the winter of 2024. Wednesday’s proposal includes changes to the regulations governing Return to Title IV Funds (R2T4), distance education, and TRIO programs. Proposed rules on cash management, accreditation, and state authorization have yet to be published.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Providing students and families with clear and accurate financial aid offers has never been more important — especially in a year when there’s less time for students to make a decision on college enrollment. The College Cost Transparency Initiative (CCT) is a national movement of institutions committing to use a common set of principles and standards that ensure transparency, clarity, and understanding around communicating student financial aid offers. Interested in participating? Make sure to submit your commitment before August 31 for a chance to win one of three complimentary registrations to NASFAA 2025 in Anaheim!

In case you missed your chance to purchase an "ISIRvived" t-shirt during NASFAA’s National Conference in Milwaukee, you can still place an order for this member-requested memento. T-shirts are available for NASFAA members to purchase through a third-party vendor through the end of August.
