NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education (ED) on Monday gave several updates on the status of the 2024-25 FAFSA cycle, including that batch institutional corrections, as well as paper FAFSA corrections, will be available in the “first half” of August.

The Department of Education (ED) via an electronic announcement on Monday released guidance on several instances where institutions are required to identify and resolve conflicting information and discrepant data on the 2024-25 FAFSA. The announcement clarifies that there are no changes to the regulations related to resolving conflicting information, but that the guidance is intended to address questions from the financial aid community about how to address certain unique circumstances that have arisen this year.

The NASFAA National Conference held its first full day of sessions covering a variety of financial aid topics. Attendees were able to learn more about gainful employment (GE) and financial value transparency (FVT) regulations and had the opportunity to hear from Department of Education (ED) officials, who provided updated details on statutory changes made to the access, use, and disclosure of FAFSA data and federal tax information (FTI) use under the FUTURE Act and FAFSA Simplification Act. Attendees were also able to hear from higher education professionals who held an in-depth conversation on enrollment challenges following the 2024-25 FAFSA.
