NEWS FROM NASFAA

Two top Republican lawmakers on Friday sent a letter to the Department of Education (ED) urging the department to “immediately comply” with the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) investigation on the rollout of the 2024-25 FAFSA.

NASFAA President Justin Draeger recently joined Inside Higher Ed and their podcast team to discuss challenges with the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout, and how its delayed timeline is impacting students, enrollment and the financial aid community. Justin also provided insight into how the past year has impacted the financial aid workforce and dug into a discussion on higher education affordability.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Have you looked at NASFAA's events calendar recently? This month National Chair Helen Faith presents at the RMASFAA Summer Institute, and National Chair-Elect Kristi Jovell presents at the Vermont (VASFAA) Summer Conference. Head to the Events Calendar to get all the details on these and other upcoming events.

While the 2024-25 FAFSA was intended to remove barriers for vulnerable student populations, the delayed rollout of the form has created challenges for individuals who have complex personal circumstances, including youth experiencing homelessness and youth with experience in the foster care system. In response to this year’s rollout, SchoolHouse Connection is conducting a brief 5-minute survey of education professionals, service providers, and others who assist these youth populations to complete the FAFSA. Results will help inform SchoolHouse Connection’s FAFSA advocacy and seek to improve upcoming FAFSA training and resources. The deadline to complete this survey is June 15.
