This week on "Off the Cuff," Justin is joined by Karen and NASFAA’s Sarah Austin to recap Federal Student Aid’s (FSA) 2023 virtual training conference. The team discusses a number of sessions held throughout the four-day event and highlights their biggest takeaways from the conference, including updates on FAFSA simplification, the FAFSA partner portal, and more.

Congressional leaders in the House on Tuesday unveiled a bipartisan bill that would enable the use of short-term Pell Grants. The legislation for “Workforce Pell Grants,” as they’ve been dubbed, has garnered heightened interest this session. If enacted, it would allow Pell Grants to be used to support students enrolled in “high-quality” short-term education programs as soon as the 2025-26 award year.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

This guidance is specific to the 2024-25 award year and later. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) states in the December 4, 2023 Electronic Announcement (CB-23-21) that schools must plan to submit the report of 2022 calendar year Federal Work-Study (FWS) earnings to Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) by December 31, 2023.
