Last week, the Department of Education (ED) released its unofficial final rule on Gainful Employment (GE) and its new Financial Value Transparency framework, which it plans to officially release in the Federal Register on October 10, 2023. The rule represents ED’s fourth effort, over more than a decade, to establish gainful employment standards, and ED’s first attempt at applying gainful employment metrics to non-GE programs, albeit without the associated penalties applicable to GE programs.

The Department of Education (ED) on Wednesday announced additional $9 billion in federal student loan debt forgiveness for 125,000 borrowers through fixes to the income-driven repayment (IDR) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) programs, and automatic forgiveness for borrowers with total and permanent disabilities.

The NASFAA website, www.nasfaa.org, will be unavailable starting tonight, October 5 at 6:00 p.m. ET for scheduled maintenance. The outage is expected to last up to 8 hours; the site will be fully restored when complete. This maintenance window will also impact other NASFAA entities, including AskRegs, the Compliance Engine, and Testing Center.
