NEWS FROM NASFAA

In the book titled "Super Mentors: The Ordinary Person’s Guide to Asking Extraordinary People for Help," authors Eric Koester and Adam Saven recommend moving away from the traditional idea of seeking a long-term “inspirational mentor” who provides little more than advice and moral support. "According to the authors, most people fail to secure the mentorship they desire because they ask the wrong question: 'Will you be my mentor?' This question is vague and suggests the dynamic will be time-consuming for the mentor," writes Dr. Christine J. Lam, assistant director for client services at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, who read the book and shared her opinions of its content with NASFAA. What follows are her takeaways, thoughts, and reflections.

Many under-resourced schools do not have the capacity or resources to use NASFAA’s SAI Modeling Tool, which helps predict changes in financial need and Federal Pell Grant eligibility as a result of FAFSA simplification. In order to support those institutions NASFAA, through its consulting firm Blue Icon Advisors, will assist up to 50 under-resourced schools in utilizing the tool at a significantly reduced price. This work is generously sponsored by a grant from Strada Education Foundation. If you are interested in participating in this SAI Modeling Tool opportunity you can learn more about how to take the next steps.
