A new report from the Department of Education (ED) examined trends of graduate student loan borrowing, noting that, if the current trajectory continues, graduate student loans could soon be a majority of the entire federal student loan portfolio.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Each year, NASFAA presents awards to deserving members of the financial aid profession and higher education community. Let's take a moment to congratulate the winners of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award, which is the highest award that NASFAA can bestow on one of its members or an individual who is affiliated with a member organization. Congratulations to Lisa Hopper, dean of student financial services at National Park College in Hot Springs Arkansas, Lori Vedder, interim vice-provost of enrollment management & director of financial aid at University of Michigan-Flint, and Karen Krause, executive director of the office of financial aid, scholarships, and veteran’s benefits processing at University of Texas at Arlington. Take a look back at past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, and see all of the 2023 award recipients.

FAFSA simplification is something that impacts all corners of the institution. We’ve heard and listened that it would be useful to compile communication resources that institutions have built to educate institutional partners, students, and families about FAFSA simplification. If you have email templates, presentation slides, or other materials you have used to inform your colleagues and the public about the changes that come with FAFSA simplification, please submit them to us by August 25, 2023. We will share the submissions a few weeks afterwards. For more knowledge sharing, join our FAFSA Simplification Community to connect more with aid professionals across the country.
