POLITCO Pro Morning Education: FAFSA Troubles

"Batch corrections will not be available for the 2024-25 FAFSA, according to an Education Department announcement," POLITICO reports.

... "Batch processing allows financial aid professionals to efficiently submit FAFSA corrections in bulk and is ordinarily available when the FAFSA application goes live, typically on Oct. 1."

"Institutions were expecting the feature to become available in the 'first-half of August,' per the department’s previous guidance. Because of the delayed delivery, institutions will not be able to utilize the corrections before they begin their fall semesters. Those representing financial aid offices say this will create much more work for them."

"In a normal year, a large school may process hundreds if not thousands of corrections, which need to be completed before officers can issue final aid offers and students can start receiving aid. Delays in distributing aid will likely disproportionately affect the most vulnerable students."
