Congressional Bill Would Relieve Federal Student Loan Debt

"A pair of North Carolina lawmakers are sponsoring another try at student loan debt relief. U.S. Reps. Alma Adams of Charlotte and Deborah Ross of Raleigh last week introduced the so-called “Clean Slate series” of legislation: Clean Slate Through Consolidation Act, Clean Slate Through Repayment Act, and Clean Slate Through Rehabilitation Act. All three bills would remove default records from the credit history of borrowers who have tried to remedy their defaulted federal loan," The Charlotte Post reports.

... "The legislation is backed by The Center for Responsible Lending, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Institute for College Access & Success, National Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers."
