ED to Offer a Baker's Dozen of Sessions at the NASFAA Conference*

At the 2009 NASFAA Conference, 13 is your lucky number. This year the Department of Education will host 13 interest sessions at the event, plus a panel on issues such as negotiated rulemaking and the President's FY 2010 budget, two sessions in collaboration with other NASFAA members, and the popular ED Resource room.

ED's extensive offerings at the 2009 Conference is especially important in this volatile time of changes resulting from the Higher Education Opportunity Act, negreg, and the new administration. It is also a year when the Department will limit its FSA Conference to only one location, Nashville, TN, in December. The NASFAA Conference is your only opportunity to attend so many live ED sessions in one place before the start of the new academic year.

ED's lineup of 2009 NASFAA Conference sessions addresses all of the topics at the top of your "need to know" list:

  • Application Processing Update
  • Direct Loan Servicing -- Working with Schools
  • Experimental Sites -- a New Beginning
  • Federal Methodology Changes
  • Moving from FFEL to Direct Loan
  • National Student Loan Data Systems (NSLDS)
  • New Consumer Disclosure Responsibilities of Institutions
  • The New Perkins Loan Program
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income-based Repayment
  • Simplifying the Financial Aid Application Process
  • The TEACH Grant Program
  • Title IV Grants Programs Update
  • Title IV Student Loans Update: FFEL, Direct Loan, and Perkins

Virtually all of ED's sessions will be repeated more than once during the four-day conference.

ED Sessions Are Just the Beginning

NASFAA members and staff will also offer volumes of information during more than 100 interest sessions grouped in 15 interest tracks:

  • Technology
  • Management
  • Taxes
  • Loans
  • Student Access and Diversity
  • Graduate/Professional Issues
  • Research
  • Generational Issues
  • Regulations
  • Financial Literacy
  • Reauthorization
  • Enrollment Management
  • Professional Development
  • Customer Service
  • Philosophy of Student Aid

Don't Miss Out

The NASFAA Conference is the only place where you can experience a full slate of ED sessions, learn from over 100 interest sessions, and discuss strategies and ideas with your colleagues from every corner of the nation. And you can't beat San Antonio's River Walk for a place to relax and recharge after an information- packed day.

Everything you need to know about the Conference -- from the new electronic scheduler to a list of sessions to online registration -- is available in the Conference area of the NASFAA Web site. July is fast approaching; if you haven't registered yet, reserve your space now!
