Students will hear practical advice about living richer with less, colleges will learn
best practices in student financial literacy programs.
(June 30, 2008) - The National Student Loan Program (NSLP) will sponsor nationally-recognized author, public speaker, and media personality, Jeff Yeager's presentation "Finding Wholesale Happiness in a Retail World" for college students at the University of the District of Columbia on July 2 at 10 am. Yeager's presentation is open to students from other colleges in the Washington, DC area.
Yeager's lively, one-hour talk is based on his popular new book, The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less, which tells how to live a happier, healthier and fuller life - but only if you're NOT willing to pay the price.
On July 24, Yeager's presentation will be rebroadcast as part of NSLP's Financial Literacy Symposium - a series of five free, one-hour online seminars broadcast July 15 through 24 - which features a broad range of speakers who will provide practical information, tools, and resources for developing or enhancing student financial literacy on campus.
In addition to Yeager, symposium speakers include Dr. Dorothy Bagwell Durband, who will share experiences from Texas Tech University's successful "Red to Black" peer financial planning and counseling program; and Scott Miller from the University of Virginia, who will offer advice on implementing an award-winning student financial literacy program on campus. Symposium participants will learn best practices from successful programs, review the latest research about how critical managing finances is for a student's success, and hear practical ways to address the needs of unique student populations.
The symposium is appropriate for any campus leader who needs information about the importance of financial literacy to student success, including financial aid, student services and counseling offices, or academic deans, vice presidents, and others.
Symposium information and registration is available in the "Default Prevention and Financial Literacy Special Events" section of NSLP's website.
