Making a Difference in the Lives of Students
The Discover® Scholarship Program was launched seventeen years ago to recognize exceptional
achievements of high school juniors and help them realize their dreams.
Discover Financial Services makes up to $300,000 in scholarships available to 10 high school juniors in
all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
More than 6,000 students have received nearly $16 million in scholarships for accredited education and
training beyond high school - no matter what career path the winner chooses. Scholarships may be used
to help pay for certification or licensing, trade or technical school training and two- or four-year college
degrees.
What Makes the Discover Scholarship Awards Unique
While most scholarship programs are geared toward high school seniors, Discover focuses on juniors -
giving them an additional year to prepare for their advanced education and make their career plans. The
Program recognizes students who have shown initiative, creativity, determination and personal results,
and triumphed in all aspects of their lives - not just academic excellence.
To be considered, applicants must demonstrate their success in the three areas of leadership, community
service and obstacle(s) overcome. Obstacles might be economic, emotional, societal, physical or
geographic. In addition to their achievements, applicants must have maintained at least a 2.75
cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
What is Distinctive about the Discover Scholarship Winners
Discover Scholarship winners come from all parts of the country and have diverse backgrounds. There
are no "typical" winners, although they often share similar characteristics. They are motivated selfstarters
and natural risk-takers. They are dedicated, courageous and tenacious and have excelled even
while dealing with personal challenges. They create opportunities for themselves and for others. And,
they give freely of their time and talents to help make their world a better place.
