Reauthorization 2008: First Alerts - Frequently Asked Questions

On August 21, NASFAA staff is presenting Reauthorization 2008: First Alerts, a live Webinar about immediate implementation issues relating to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, which reauthorizes the Higher Education Act of 1965. In this Webinar, three NASFAA staff members will discuss the legislative changes from the student aid administrators' perspective.

  1. When is the Webinar?
    Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., EDT

  2. How long will the Webinar last?
    The Webinar is scheduled to run 120 minutes

  3. What is the Webinar about?
    The Webinar addresses a number of the immediate implementation issues you need to consider and other questions about the Higher Education Opportunity Act, which is the legislation passed by Congress on July 31, 2008. The Act, which will become law once signed by President Bush, contains extensive changes in virtually every area of the student aid process. This Webinar will present some of the most pressing issues financial aid administrators will need to consider. NASFAA will develop additional training and resources over the coming weeks providing in-depth analysis of the legislation and its effect on your students and your office operations.

  4. What is the cost to participate?
    This Webinar is one of the many benefits of your NASFAA membership; there is no cost for NASFAA members. This Webinar is not open to non-members.

  5. How can I register for the August 21 Webinar?
    Registration is available to NASFAA members at the NASFAA Webinar Center - http://www.nasfaa.org/redesign/WebinarCenter.asp. Those who can't attend the live event should register as well so they can access the archived recording and handouts.

  6. Who is participating in the Webinar?
    The scheduled presenters are experts from NASFAA's staff: Joan Berkes, Director of Legislative and Regulatory Analysis; Justin Draeger, Associate Director of Communications; and Larry Zaglaniczny, Vice President of Governmental Relations. Jennifer Martin, Assistant Director of Professional Assessment, Training, and Regulatory Assistance, will moderate and facilitate the questions and answers.

  7. How can I access the Webinar?
    Participants who register should receive a confirmation via email. Even if you don't receive it, you can go to the Webinar Center at http://www.nasfaa.org/redesign/WebinarCenter.asp and click on the link to the information and registration page for this webinar. Once there, you can access the Event Registration Lobby by clicking on the Register and View the Webinar links in the Webinar Center. You do not need to phone in - you will hear the audio via your computer using either Windows Media Player or Real Player.

  8. Can I get the handouts before the Webinar begins?
    Handouts to download will be available in the Event Lobby, which is the area where you will access the Webinar. They will also be available in the Webinar Center, by 11 a.m. on the morning of August 21st. The slides for this Webinar can also be downloaded from the screen that the audience views during the Webinar. You should also review NASFAA's Summary of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, which is available now at http://www.nasfaa.org/publications/2008/HEAsummary.html.

  9. What if I have problems registering for the Webinar? If you have problems with your member login and password, contact Membership Services at membership@nasfaa.org.

  10. What if I have problems connecting to the Webinar?
    Call Chris McInnis at extension 6954 for help connecting to the Webinar or related technical issues.

  11. Will I be able to ask questions? If so, how?
    Yes. You can submit questions at any time during the live Webinar using the "Ask a Question" button on the Webinar screen. You may also ask questions in advance by writing to GovtAffairs@nasfaa.org. Presenters will respond to selected questions in a facilitated Question and Answer periods during the Webinar.

  12. Will the Webinar be recorded and available online?
    Yes. A recording of the presentation, including slides and audio, will be available to registered participants within a day or two of the live presentation. Watch Today's News for more information.

  13. Will I have to register to view the archive?
    Yes, if you are not registered for the live event, you must register to view the archived recording. The registration process for the archived recording is identical to the registration for the live event.
