Commonfund Issues A Truer Measure Of Colleges' Inflation Costs (The Chronicle of Higher Education)

"The organization that tracks inflation for higher education has issued an addendum to the annual Higher Education Price Index figure it reported last week, this time including the effects of the recent spike in utilities costs," The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. "With that, the more-accurate estimate of colleges' overall annual cost increases for the year ending June 30 is 4.6 percent, the Commonfund Institute said. John S. Griswold Jr., executive director of the institute, said in an interview on Tuesday that the organization was not revising its original HEPI figure but decided to calculate the newer number because it was a better reflection of the actual cost increases colleges have been facing over the past few months."
