ANN-03-09: ED to Hold Two Electronic Access Conferences this Fall

August 2003

ANN-03-09

Dear Partner

The US Department of Education (ED) invites you and your colleagues to join us at one of our two Electronic Access Conferences (EACs). We are holding these conferences at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California, November 2-5 and at the Sheraton New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana, December 2-5, 2003. These conferences review updates to the Title IV delivery system and help financial aid professionals to efficiently and effectively manage all aspects of student aid delivery.

The theme of this year's conference is "Getting Aid Right." Together, we deliver billions of dollars in aid to millions of students and families ensuring higher education is affordable and accessible. Half of all undergraduate students rely on us to provide the student aid resources they need to pursue college or career training. The following are just some of the topics we will address at the conferences:

  • Delivering Aid in the 21st Century and Beyond
  • Resolving Conflicts in Determining Student Eligibility
  • Return of Title IV Funds
  • Common Origination and Disbursements
  • What Students Need to Know About Federal Student Aid
  • FAA Access to CPS Online
  • 2002-2003 Direct Loan Closeouts
  • EDExpress Updates
  • NSLDS Updates
  • Benefits of Using XML
  • CommonLine and the Common Record

We are also pleased to offer "state of the art" classroom style hands-on sessions and a PC Lab where experienced staff can give you individual attention and show you how to use ED's financial aid software and systems. You can also see demonstrations of our new online resources. Plus, be sure to stop by and visit our "Default Management" booth where you can view the latest tools and resources available to schools and students. Knowledgeable staff will also be available to answer questions on a wide range of financial aid topics.

We continue to improve our conferences including expanding the use of round-tables, encouraging formal and informal networking, adding "Birds of a Feather" sessions for sharing best practices and promoting discussions during the Town Hall meeting on Federal Student Aid (FSA) operations.

With over 3,000 attendees expected this year, the annual EAC is the "can't miss" event of the year. Mark your calendar now for four days of education, career development, networking, and more! Visit the conference website at http://edeworkshop.ncspearson.com for the most current registration, session, and agenda information. Please note you must register online for the conference. If you have questions regarding the registration process, please call Jackie Miller at (319) 665-7797 or send an email to confsuggest@pearson.com. Please note that no registration fees are required to attend this conference.

For your convenience, we have reserved (at special rates) a block of rooms at each conference site .Please contact the hotel directly to reserve your room. You will find pertinent hotel and discounted travel information at the website previously listed.

We look forward to seeing you in San Diego or New Orleans.
